В феврале 1983 года, француз FR David представил свой второй сингл "Pick up the phone" ("Подними трубку телефона"). Когда Дитер Болен услышал первые звуки "Pick up the phone", он уже знал, что сделает немецкую версию этого хита. Но, он никак не мог найти исполнителя. Песню он решил назвать "Was macht das shon?" . Однажды Ди получил письмо от звукозаписывающей фирмы Hansa, в котором говорилось, что на примете у этой компании есть один молодой исполнитель, чьи песни не пользовались большим успехом, - Томас Андерс. По прилёту в Гамбург Томас был восхищен версией Дитера "Pick up the phone".
